Opportunities for strengthening defence and resilience cooperation between Lithuania and the Philippines discussed

On 21 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Audra Plepytė and the National Defense Undersecretary of the Philippines Ignacio B. Madriaga discussed the geopolitical context, changing world order, and bilateral relations.

Both sides emphasized constructive cooperation in the areas of cyber security, defence, societal resilience, people-to-people connections, and cultural ties. The issue of the Filipino workforce and other potential opportunities for cooperation were also discussed.

The Vice-Minister thanked the National Defense Undersecretary for the Philippines' strong position and support for Ukraine at the United Nations.

“We highly value the Philippines’ voice in the international arena. It is crucial that support for Ukraine is expressed not only by countries that are geographically close, but also by like-minded partners from father away. The aggressor must be clearly identified. Ukraine’s fight is the fight for freedom for all of us. The defeat of Ukraine would mean the defeat not only of Ukraine, but also of all democracies", said Plepytė.

Lithuania and the Philippines established diplomatic relations in 1991. The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of Korea was accredited to the Philippines in 2023.
