On the Signature of a "Treaty on Alliance and Strategic Partnership" between of the Abkhazia region of Georgia and the Russian Federation
Lithuania expresses its firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders. We concur the 24/11/2014 statement of the High Representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy Federica Mogherini stating that the so called treaty “violates Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, contradicts principles of international law and the international commitments of the Russian Federation, including the 12 August 2008 Agreement and its Implementing Measures of 8 September 2008”.
Lithuania stresses the importance of the Geneva International Discussions in ensuring the security and stability in the region and reaching for peaceful resolution of the conflict.
