ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY, A TELEVISED BRIDGE JOINS VILNIUS AND DUBLIN
On 3 October, a televised conference was held, during which Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas and Minister of Education and Science Algirdas Monkevičius saluted Lithuanian teachers in Ireland on the occasion of the World Teachers’ Day.
More than ten teachers working at Lithuanian Saturday schools gathered at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ireland to hear the words of the Ministers speaking from Vilnius.
Welcoming the teachers and wishing them success at their responsible work, P.Vaitiekūnas indicated that a teacher was not just a profession, but a vocation and a lifestyle.
‘Let me take this opportunity to congratulate you and express my respect for your willingness to teach children far away from their homeland. Thank you for your efforts in educating them how to love Lithuania, the Lithuanian language, the Lithuanian history and culture,’ said P.Vaitiekūnas.
Having congratulated the educators, Minister of Education and Science A.Monkevičius promised to the Lithuanian teachers to meet them in Ireland in the nearest future.
Lithuanian Ambassador to Ireland Izolda Bričkovskienė thanked teachers that they found time to come to the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania from different cities of Ireland. The Ambassador admired the fact that the Lithuanian teachers in Ireland did their job very well even though they worked not in the best environment.
The teachers of the Lithuanian Saturday schools in Ireland invited ministers A.Monkevičius and P.Vaitiekūnas to visit their schools.
Currently, there are ten Lithuanian schools in Ireland. On 4 October, the eleventh Lithuanian Saturday school opens in Mullingar.
