ON THE OCCASION OF THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS, JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER STRESSES THE SIGIFICANCE OF PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND JAPAN
A photo exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations of Lithuania and Japan was opened on 12 October at the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania. On this occasion, Japan’s Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba stressed that Lithuania was playing a growing role in addressing global issues and emphasized the significance of cooperation between the two countries.
Lithuania plays an increasingly important role in addressing not only regional, but also global issues. As a foreign minister, I will continue to strengthen our bilateral, as well as international cooperation, which is based on our traditionally excellent bilateral relations,” Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania Miyoko Akashi conveyed the words of the Minister.The Minister thanks Lithuania for its support and assistance provided to Japan after the earthquake, and also highlighted that Lithuania and Japan shared common values.
According to K. Gemba, “our bilateral cooperation was constantly evolving and both countries became partners sharing such values as freedom, democracy and market economy. A good example of this is our cooperation for reconstruction of Afghanistan.”
The opening of the exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations was attended by Speaker of the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania Irena Degutienė, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania Emanuelis Zingeris, Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania Miyoko Akashi.
The photos of the event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations of Lithuania and Japan and of the restoration works performed after the earthquake are on display in the exhibition.
Lithuania and Japan re-established diplomatic relations on 10 October 1991.
