OFFICIALS SIGN A MEMORANDUM ON COOPERATION BETWEEN THE FOREIGN MINISTRIES OF LITHUANIA AND BRAZIL

On 11 April, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė began her visit to the capital of Brazil by signing a memorandum on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil.The agreement was reached aiming to strengthen bilateral political cooperation.

The political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil, which were led by Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and Brazilian Vice Foreign Minister Vera Barrouin Machado, focused on relevant bilateral and international political and economic issues, cooperation in international organizations and relevant regional issues.

The Vice-Minister conveyed invitations to the President and Foreign Minister of Brazil to take part in the events of Lithuania’s Presidency of the Community of Democracies in Vilnius this summer.

Brazilian Vice Foreign Minister informed the Lithuanian Vice-Minister that Brazil would consider opening the Embassy in Vilnius in 2012.

Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė also attended meetings at Brazil’s Diplomatic Academy and the Federal Senate of Brazil.

Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė and Chairman of the Senate Infrastructure Commission, former President of Brazil Fernando Collor de Mello discussed possibilities for bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation.

On 12 April, Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė is paying a visit to São Paulo, and on 13-15 April she is on a visit to Argentina.
