OFFICIALS OF LITHUANIAN FIRE AND RESCUE DEPARTMENT SHARE EXPERIENCE WITH GEORGIAN COLLEAGUES
On 17 November, the delegation of Emergency Management Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (EMD) arrived in Lithuania under the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry's development cooperation and democracy promotion project „Strengthening of Georgia’s Administrative Capacities in the Area of fire-prevention rescue and civil protection”.
The purpose of the project is to contribute to Georgia's public security, to the development of democracy security and stability in Georgia. It also seeks to increase the role of Lithuania in the formation and implementation of international organizations policy in the world, creating new cooperation networks of similar institutions, finding effective forms and methods to ensure public security.
The Delegation is participating in the events in Lithuania until 21 November and is headed by Director of EMD Zurab Hikvaidze.
On 18 November, at the Lithuania’s Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) Georgian delegation met FRD leaders; where the activity of the FRD, the emergency management system and the experience of international aid procurement was analyzed. Possibilities for further cooperation between Lithuania and Georgia were also discussed. On the same day, Georgian delegation together with FRD authority visited the Ministry of the Interior, met the Secretary of the Ministry Stanislovas Liutkevičius.
During the visit, Georgian delegation is also planning to visit FRD Fire Fighters Training School, Fire Fighting and Rescue Service of Vilnius District, Trakai and Ignalina Fire Protection and Rescue Services.
On 13-18 July 2008, a group of Lithuanian FRD officials, headed by Deputy Director of the Department Colonel of Internal Service Artūras Račkauskas, was on visit to Georgia.
