NUCLEAR SECURITY ISSUES WERE DISCUSSED AT A SEMINAR IN WARSAW
On 30 August in Warsaw, Political Director of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Eitvydas Bajarūnas attended the seminar for Central and Eastern European region. Nuclear security issues were discussed at the seminar.

“Next year, Lithuania’s chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) will dedicate considerable attention to the issues of nuclear counterterrorism,” the Political Director of the MFA said.
E.Bajarūnas drew participants’ attention to the region’s problem, i.e., plans to construct nuclear power plants in Kaliningrad and Belarus.
He stressed that Lithuania spoke up for the construction of new nuclear infrastructure objects only in compliance with strict security requirements and following consultations with the neighboring countries.
“Lithuania is ready to share its experience with other countries in the areas of nuclear security, guarantee application and waste management. Therefore, we are prepared to attend the next Nuclear Security Summit, which will be held in South Korea in 2012,” the Political Director of Lithuania’s MFA said.
