Nordic and Baltic ministers express strong support for Ukraine
On 14 February, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, together with the Nordic and Baltic Ministers, met with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiha on the margins of the Munich Security Conference.
At the meeting, the Nordic and Baltic Ministers expressed their solidarity with Ukraine and their commitment to support the country in achieving a just and lasting peace.
“There is a need not only to end the war in Ukraine but also to stop the Russian aggression. A sustainable peace can only be achieved by providing Ukraine with real security guarantees, the most reliable of which is Ukraine’s NATO membership. Ukraine must be empowered to negotiate from a strong position, and Europe must play an important role in strengthening Ukraine,” said the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy.
Budrys underlined that the Nordic and Baltic countries are among the largest providers of military assistance to Ukraine and are ready to increase their support further. According to Budrys, the countries are strongly committed to strengthening collective security and defence.
“We must take responsibility for peace and security in Europe. And we are ready to do so,” said the Foreign Minister.
