NEW STATE SECRETARY OF THE MINISTRY APPOINTED
On 24 May Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas appointed Deividas Matulionis as State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. Before this appointment D. Matulionis was Director of Economic Security Policy Department at the Foreign Ministry. D. Matulionis was born on 2 September 1963 and graduated from the Industrial Economics Faculty of Vilnius University in 1986.
In 1991-1993 he worked as a Senior Specialist and First Secretary of Northern Europe Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1993-1994 he was appointed Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at Lithuanian Embassy in Estonia, and later – Counsellor at the Embassy.
In 1994-1995 he was a Counsellor at Lithuanian Embassy in the Kingdom of Norway. In 1995-1997 – Counsellor at Lithuanian Embassy in the Kingdom of Denmark.
In 1997-1998 he held the position of the Head of Northern Europe Division and in 1998 - Head of Western Europe Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1998-2001 he worked as International Relations Advisor to the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
In 2001–2006 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Denmark and the Republic of Iceland.
D. Matulionis speaks English, German, Russian and Danish.
