On 17 August, Lithuanian Ambassador to the Republic of Poland Egidijus Meilūnas presented credentials to the country’s President Alexander Kwasniewski.
After the ceremony, Ambassador Meilūnas and President Kwasniewski discussed the Lithuanian-Polish cooperation in the European Union and NATO, implementation of the regional infrastructure projects and other bilateral issues.
According to the Head of the Polish State, the Polish-Lithuanian strategic partnership is a basis for further active and creative cooperation between the two states in Europe and transatlantic area.
“I am convinced that we will work successfully together in the European Union and NATO, thus strengthening the security and well-being of our nations,” Alexander Kwasniewski told at the meeting.
During the meeting, Ambassador Meilūnas extended the invitation of the Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus to the Polish President to come on official visit to Lithuania this autumn.
Valdas Adamkus appointed the 40-year old career diplomat Egidijus Meilūnas Ambassador to the Republic of Poland on 20 July. He replaced former Ambassador Darius Degutis, who had been working in Poland since 2001.
