New Honorary Consulate of Lithuania opens in Poland
Lithuania’s Honorary Consulate, headed by lawyer Tomasz Arthur Koson, was opened in Wrocław, Poland, on 6 February. Now there are eight Honorary Consulates in Poland. At the opening ceremony, Šarūnas Adomavičius, Ambassador of Lithuania in Poland, emphasized the opening up of new opportunities for business development, scientific, cultural ties and youth exchanges as well as feeling closer to home for Lithuanian residents and visitors.
T.Koson, head of a group of investment and finance companies DAF, will carry out consular functions and provide all necessary consular assistance to Lithuanian nationals in the consular district - Lower Silesian Voivodeship in south-western Poland. Representatives of the authorities of Wrocław and Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Vilnius City Municipality, local politicians, culture, education, sciences, honorary consuls, Lithuanian residents and business people of the region have attended the opening ceremony. Paintings of a Lithuanian artist Aloyzas Stasiulevičius were exhibited at Wrocław City Hall for the occassion.
During the visit, the Ambassador and representatives of Wrocław and Lower Silesian Voivodeship discussed possibilities of business and cultural cooperation, exchange of students and joint academic initiatives between the cities. The cooperation agreement with Vilnius, signed last year, has reinforced ties between the two cities and the Vilnius City Municipality has already been sharing experience with Wrocław Municipality in preparation for the European Capital of Culture in 2016, according to the Wrocław officials.
