NEW FOREIGN MINISTRY UNDERSECRETARY APPOINTED IN LITHUANIA

On 19 July, career diplomat Albinas Januška replaced Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Rytis Martikonis took office in Brussels. Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis signed an order on the appointment of Albinas Januška, who had served as Foreign Ministry Ambassador at Large for the Wider Europe initiative. Albinas Januška, 44, was a member of the Sąjūdis Congress in 1988-1990. In 1990 he was elected member of the Supreme Council. Albinas Januška is a signatory to the March 11 Independence Act. On 19 July, Rytis Martikonis became Lithuania's Ambassador for Special Assignments in the Permanent Mission to the EU, as well as Lithuania's representative in the EU Political and Security Committee.
