NEW AMBASSADOR OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA TAKES OFFICE IN LITHUANIA

On 20 November in Vilnius, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Rolandas Kriščiūnas held a meeting with the new Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Lithuania Kemal Muftić, evaluated the strengthening bilateral political ties and discussed processes of integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the EU and NATO.

The Lithuanian Foreign Vice-Minister affirmed that Lithuania supported the EU’s enlargement policy. The stability and development of the Western Balkans region is a significant factor for the future of Europe as a whole. It is expected that political leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina will join efforts to take further steps needed for the country’s integration in the EU. Accession to NATO is no less important for national and regional security and stability. In this respect it is necessary to take advantage of NATO’s commitment to assist the country in its further integration.

According to R.Kriščiūnas, Lithuania has capacity and is ready to share its experience of European integration, which was gained in the joint implementation of the EU Twinning projects or other initiatives.

Born in 1952, Kemal Muftić is the 5th Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Lithuania. The diplomat resides in Copenhagen. The Embassy is also accredited to Latvia. Lithuania and Bosnia and Herzegovina established diplomatic relations on 6 November 1992.
