NEGOTIATIONS ON THE MARKING OF THE STATE BORDER INTERSECTION POINT VIŠTYTIS TOOK PLACE IN MOSCOW

On 21-23 April in Moscow, the third round of among Lithuania, Poland and Russia on the marking of the intersection point Vištytis of the state borders of Lithuania, Poland and Russia took place. During the negotiations, the Lithuanian delegation was led by Head of the Governmental Commission for Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border and Determination of the Economic Zone in the Baltic Sea of the Republic of Lithuania Zenonas Kumetaitis. During the trilateral negotiations in Moscow,  an agreement was reached regarding the principal provisions of demarcation of the intersection point Vištytis: the parties agreed on the type and the size of the sign. Moreover, during the negotiations, the instructions of marking the intersection point of the state borders were essentially agreed upon. It is expected that the works of marking the intersection point of the state borders of  Lithuania, Poland and Russia will be successfully completedby the first half of 2009.

An agreement on the establishment of the intersection point of the state borders, signed by the governments of Lithuania, Poland and Russia in 2005,, obligates the parties to agree on the demarcation of the intersection point Vištytis. Earlier rounds of the negotiations regarding the marking of the intersection point of the state borders of  the three countries took place in Vištytis and Gołdap, Poland.
