NEGOTIATIONS ON EU-CANADA COMPREHENSIVE ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WERE DISCUSSED IN VILNIUS

On 16 July, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with Canada’s former Minister of International Trade, current Chairman of the Canada Europe Roundtable for Business (CERT) Roy MacLaren.

The meeting focused on negotiations regarding European Union-Canada comprehensive economic partnership agreement.

Negotiations on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement between the EU and Canada were launched at the EU-Canada Summit on 6 May 2009. The fourth round of negotiations took place in Brussels on 12-16 July.

Lithuania dedicates a lot of attention to these negotiations and expects a broad, ambitious and symmetrical agreement.

In the area of tariff liberalization, absolutely free trade in textiles and wooden furniture is the most important to Lithuania. However, market access in other trade areas, such as public procurement and services, is not less important.

Founded in 1999, CERT fulfils a need оf an efficient business dialogue between Canada and Europe and promotes bilateral comprehensive liberalization of free trade and investment.
