NB8+ Meeting taking place in Vilnius

On September 8–9, a NB8+ meeting on consular matters is taking place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended by 22 heads of consular departments from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, and Poland.

The meeting places special emphasis on presenting the Special Transit Scheme to NB8+ partners, discussing the concept of hybrid threats and deterrence in the Baltic Sea region, and addressing external border security issues.

Participants will visit the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) headquarters and its Aviation Unit, where they will learn about the control of Russian Federation citizens and transit trains passing through the territory of the Republic of Lithuania. They will also take part in thematic discussions and consultations on the implementation of the Special Transit Scheme, and discuss the importance of strengthening the protection of the EU’s external borders to defend against potential Russian aggression, hybrid threats, and illegal migration.

The event is part of the project “Additional MFA Activity Costs for 2024–2027” (Project No. SVVP/2023/357), funded by the Border Management and Visa Policy Financial Support Instrument, which is included in the Integrated Border Management Fund.

The goal of the project is to ensure the smooth implementation of the Special Transit Scheme.

A total of €20,616,395.68 has been allocated for the implementation of the project.
