NATO SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE CAUCASUS AND CENTRAL ASIA IS PAYING A VISIT TO LITHUANIA

On 10 December, NATO’s Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Security Cooperation and Partnership, Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Robert Simmons is paying a visit to Lithuania.

Meetings of R.Simmons with Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Laimonas Talat-Kelpša are scheduled in the program of the visit.

During the meetings, important issues of international security, development of relations between NATO and Georgia, and between NATO and Ukraine, cooperation of the Alliance with Russia and Central Asian countries, and NATO operation in Afghanistan are being discussed.

On 11 December in Minsk, R.Simmons will take part in the events, dedicated to the end of the 2nd term of Lithuania’s Embassy to Belarus as the NATO Contact Point Embassy.  Lithuania’s Embassy was given this task for the period from 2004 till the end of the year 2008.
