On February 22, NATO Secretary General Lord George Robertson was on an official visit in Lithuania.
During the visit Lord Robertson met with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, Chairman of the Seimas Artūras Paulauskas, Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas, Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis Defence Minister Linas Linkevičius and Members of the Seimas (Parliament).
At the meetings the officials discussed NATO enlargement process before the upcoming NATO Summit in Prague and Lithuania's political and practical preparedness for the membership in the Alliance.
This was the third visit of Lord Robertson to Lithuania. In May 2000, NATO Secretary General participated in the Vilnius conference "NATO's Role in the Changing Security Environment in Europe", in which by the initiative of Lithuania and Slovenia the Vilnius 10 group uniting the countries seeking NATO membership was established. In May 2001, Lord Robertson took part in the spring session of NATO Parliamentary Assembly held in Vilnius.
