Mr. Arūnas Paulauskas – Lithuania‘s Candidate for Vice President for Europe at the Executive Committee of Interpol
On the 31rd of August the Government of the Republic of Lithuania has approved the nomination of Chief Commissioner, Deputy Police Commissioner General of Lithuanian Police, Arūnas Paulauskas for the position of Vice President for Europe at the Executive Committee of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) for the term 2022-2025.
Mr. A. Paulauskas has extensive professional experience in a wide range of fields from crime investigation to senior management of the main Lithuanian police institutions. Since the restoration of the Independence of the Republic of Lithuania more than 30 years ago, Mr. A. Paulauskas has played an ongoing active role in the creation of a modern, effective and efficient Lithuanian police force.
Interpol is the largest international police organisation in the world, currently with 195 member states, that facilitates worldwide police cooperation and crime control. Interpol's Executive Committee oversees the implementation of the General Assembly's decisions, prepares agendas for its sessions, supervises the work of the Secretary-General and exercises all the powers conferred on it by the General Assembly. The Vice-Presidents preside over regional conferences, which are held annually or biennially. The Executive Committee is composed of 13 members, taking into account geographical distribution. At present, in addition to the outgoing Vice-President for Europe from the Czech Republic, the Executive Committee includes representatives from the United Kingdom, Spain and Turkey.
This is the first time that a Lithuanian expert has been nominated for the position of Vice President for Europe on the Interpol Executive Committee. The elections will be held during the 90th session of the Interpol General Assembly on 18-21 October 2022 in India.
The candidate's election campaign will be run by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.
