Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged a strong protest against Belarus regarding repeated violations of the Lithuanian state border
On 18 August, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania (MFA) sent a diplomatic note to Belarus expressing its strong protest regarding repeated violations of the Lithuanian state border.
The MFA demands that Belarus should take every necessary measure as soon as possible to prevent such incidents in the future.
Yesterday, on 17 August, twelve Belarus officials, armed with riot control equipment tried to push by force a group of 35 irregular migrants into the Lithuanian territory and stepped one metre into the territory of Lithuania in Šalčininkai District, the section administered by Gintaras Žagunis Frontier Station, Varėna Frontier District, State Border Guard Service of the Republic of Lithuania. Such acts are considered to be a bold provocation and a gross violation of provisions on the legal regime stipulated in the Agreement between Lithuania and Belarus concerning the State Border between Lithuania and Belarus.
