MINISTERS’ VISIT TO KYIV PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO PREPARE FOR THE VILNIUS SUMMIT, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER SAYS
On 25 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and noted that the visit of the Ministers from four member states to Kyiv provided a great opportunity to prepare for the Eastern Partnership Summit on 28 and 29 November in Vilnius.
“It is expected that the historic EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will be signed at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius. The signature of the agreement will significantly deepen Ukraine’s political association and economic integration with the EU. This step will go down in history as an important one for the European Union and Ukraine,” Linkevičius stressed after the meeting with the Ukrainian President.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania is visiting Kyiv together with Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Frans Timmermans and the Minister for European Affairs of Denmark Nicolai Wammen.
The visit includes meetings with Ukraine’s highest-ranking officials and opposition representatives. Special attention is paid to Ukraine’s plans to sign an Association Agreement with the European Union, the first one covering such a wide range of areas. Ukraine hopes to sign the agreement at the Eastern Partnership Summit on 28 and 29 November in Vilnius.
