MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS RECEIVED THE NEW AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED KINGDOM

On 28 May, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas met with Ambassador of the United Kingdom Simon John Butt, who is at the beginning of his tenure in Lithuania. During the meeting, important aspects of bilateral relations between Lithuania and the United Kingdom, issues of international security, situation in Afghanistan and Iraq were briefly discussed and opinions on the European Neighbourhood Policy were exchanged.

S.J.Butt presented credentials to the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus on 26 May.

Ambassador S.J.Butt is the sixth Ambassador of the United Kingdom, residing in Lithuania.

The United Kingdom recognised Lithuania de jure on 13 July, 1922. Diplomatic relations were re-established on 4 September, 1991.
