MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF LITHUANIA RECEIVED THE NEW BULGARIAN AMBASSADOR
On 22 January, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Petras Vaitiekūnas received the new Bulgarian Ambassador to Lithuania Ivan Danchev and they discussed possibilities to intensify Lithuanian-Bulgarian relations in the areas of economy, culture, tourism and other. ‘I am happy about the success of Lithuanian business investment in Bulgaria and I trust that business ties between our countries will grow stronger in the future,’ the Head of Lithuanian diplomacy highlighted during the meeting. During the conversation it was indicated that Lithuania and Bulgaria were linked by the partnership in the European Union and NATO. Both countries take an active part in the development of the EU Neighbourhood policy and both countries find the issues of energy security important.
Ambassador Ivan Danchev is the first Bulgarian Ambassador residing in Vilnius.
Lithuania and Bulgaria established diplomatic relations on 10 September, 1991.
In 2007 Lithuanian Government made a decision to open an embassy in Bulgaria. Currently Lithuanian Ambassador to Bulgaria resides in Athens.
