Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Myanmar
On 19 June, Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, received San Lwin, a newly appointed Ambassador of Myanmar to Lithuania, in Vilnius. Ambassador San Lwin is the first Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar accredited to Lithuania after diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Myanmar were established in 2013.
The head of the Lithuanian foreign office expressed support for democratic reforms and a peace process in Myanmar. He said that Lithuania was ready to help Myanmar and had plans to allocate funds for two development cooperation projects in education and in food safety and veterinary medicine for the first time in 2017.
Both countries agreed that time had come for developing economic relations and that potential cooperation areas needed to be identified.
The Ambassador passed a verbal invitation of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi to Minister Linkevičius to pay a visit to Myanmar; in his turn, Linkevičius invited the State Counsellor to visit Lithuania.
During his visit, the Ambassador of Myanmar met with Vice-Minister Neris Germanas and Director of the Latin America, Africa, Asia and Pacific Department, Eduardas Borisovas.
