MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS EXTENDS CONDOLENCES ON THE DEATH OF PATRIARCH ALEXIY II

On 9 December, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Petras Vaitiekūnas paid a visit to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vilnius, where he signed the book of condolences thus paying tribute to Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Alexiy II.

P.Vaitiekūnas expressed condolences to the Russian Orthodox Church, its believers and whole Russian nation in the name of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Deividas Matulionis is taking part in the funeral of Alexiy II, the Patriarch of Moscow and of All-Russia.

The Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church passed away on 5 December at the age of 79.

Alexiy II was the 15th head of the Russian Orthodox Church, since the establishment of the institution in Russia, in 1589. Alexiy II was enthroned, as the Patriarch of Moscow and of All-Russia in 1990.
