MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS CONGRATULATED MOSCOW JURGIS BALTRUŠAITIS SCHOOL ON THE OCCASION OF 15TH ANNIVERSARY
On 7 December, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas congratulated pupils and teachers of Moscow Jurgis Baltrušaitis Lithuanian ethnic culture secondary school on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of its foundation.
Head of Lithuanian diplomacy was delighted that children, being far away from Lithuania, do not forget their native language, culture, customs, and history, that new pupils join the school.
“J.Baltrušaitis school bridges you with Lithuania. I am sure that even after the graduation pupils will cherish their native language and culture. I hope that they will also bring here their own offspring, who will also value Lithuanian tricolour” – this is written in P.Vaitiekūnas’ greeting.
Minister also thanked teachers for their work and concern, for the opportunities for children to acquire knowledge of Lithuania, for the lessons on mutual understanding between nations, tolerance and respect for universal human values.
Although the main educational language is Russian, Lithuanian is also taught in J.Baltrušaitis school as well as Lithuanian folk traditions, songs and dances, Lithuanian history and geography. The courses of the Lithuanian language for adults and Saturday school “Šaltinėlis” are also organized at the school. Pupils organize traditional Lithuanian celebrations, travel to ethnographic summer expedition to Lithuania. Lithuanian is taught by teachers from Lithuania.
Lithuanian businessmen’s children as well as children from mixed families or families without Lithuanian roots and offspring of Lithuanian diplomats attend this school. When it was founded in 1992 school had only 2 classes. At present it is an educational institution supervised by the state. Currently there are approximately 280 pupils learning at school.
