Minister of Foreign Affairs bids farewell to the Swiss Ambassador as the latter’s tenure ends

On 24 April 2017 Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius had a meeting with Markus Niklaus Paul Dutly, Ambassador of Switzerland to Lithuania, as the latter’s tenure is coming to an end and thanked him for his personal input into the development of friendly relations between Lithuania and Switzerland.

Bilateral relations, first and foremost, economic and trade ties were discussed at the meeting where Minister Linkevičius underlined that Switzerland was the twelfth largest investor in Lithuania and that there was a potential for further development of cooperation in the areas of information technologies, food industry, and renewable energy.

Minister Linkevičius also expressed his gratitude to Switzerland for support to Lithuania under the international programme that aims to reduce economic and social disparities within the enlarged European Union. Lithuania has received 70.8 million Swiss francs in the framework of the programme since 2007. The majority of the funds have been allocated for improvement of perinatal, maternal and neonatal health care in Lithuania, for introduction of energy-efficient technologies into hospitals, as well as research and development activities and grants.
