MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS BIDS FAREWELL TO THE OUTGOING GERMAN AMBASSADOR

On 19 June, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas met with Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Lithuania Volker Heinsberg, who is finishing his tenure. P.Vaitiekūnas thanked the ambassador for an important input into the development of the Lithuanian-German relations and discussed perspectives of further bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, the activity of the non-governmental organisation ‘Lithuanian-German Forum’ was also discussed. This forum was established in 2004, its patrons are the Presidents of Lithuania and Germany.

Ambasador V.Heinsberg is the sixth German Ambassador, residing in Lithuania. He started his tenure on 5 September 2005.

The German de jure recognition of Lithuania dates back to 23 March 1918. Diplomatic relations were re-established on 28 August 1991.
