Minister Linkevičius reiterates Lithuania’s continued support at a meeting with the President of Ukraine
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkevičius, during his working visit to Kiev on 20 June, had a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. The Minister expressed unwavering support to Ukrainian independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and condemned Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine.
“I commend Ukraine’s political will to step up its anti-corruption efforts; it’s extremely important to implement the law,” Linas Linkevičius said.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister and the President of Ukraine discussed the situation of human rights which is notably worsening in the Crimea, annexed by Russia, and underlined the importance of active dissemination of information about human rights violations there. This was also discussed at a meeting with the leaders of Crimean Tatars.
Preparations for the upcoming EU-Ukraine Summit to be held on 9 July and the NATO Summit where the leaders of Ukraine and Georgia would participate were also discussed at the meeting with the Ukrainian President.
The President of Ukraine thanked the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs for Lithuania’s support and consistent backing in international organisations.
On 21 June, Minister Linkevičius will meet with Prime Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Groysman, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pavlo Klimkin.
