Minister Linkevičius continues his work in UN General Assembly’s general debate

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius continued his work in the UN General Assembly’s general debate, met with Foreign Ministers of the United Arab Emirates, Mongolia and Norway.

In a meeting with the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Linkevičius discussed the Middle East peace and security issues, hailed a success in negotiating bilateral economic treaties and intensifying bilateral relations. The Minister Linkevičius noted that Lithuanian businessmen took a growing interest in the UAE market and recalled one successful example of cooperation – Lithuania’s assistance to UAE in negotiations with the EU on a visa-free regime.

In a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Lundeg Purevsuren, Minister Linkevičius discussed the bilateral political and economic ties, important regional issues, and signing mutually beneficial agreements on veterinary, economic cooperation and double taxation avoidance. The Foreign Minister Linkevičius invited Mongolian businesses to make better use of Lithuania’s transport and logistics infrastructure and the ice-free seaport of Klaipėda for carrying goods to Europe. The heads of diplomacy welcomed the countries’ close cooperation within international organisations. Purevsuren invited Lithuania to participate at the highest level in the jubilee Asia-Europe meeting (ASEM) in 2016.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius also met with Norway’s Minister of EU Affairs Helgesen Vidar to discuss international issues, bilateral cooperation and priorities for the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021.

At the UN Headquarters, Minister Linkevičius also signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a communications procedure from 19 December 2011.
