Minister Linkevičius congratulates his Norwegian counterpart on Constitution Day

On 17 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brenda and all the people of Norway on their national holiday – the Constitution Day.

In his congratulations letter Linkevičius wrote that Norway was a close and trusted partner of Lithuania, and an important NATO ally. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanked Norway for its contribution to strengthening security in the Baltic states. Norway has participated in NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission for three times already  and will help manning the NATO enhanced forward presence battalion in Lithuania later this year.

Linkevičius highlighted the importance of regional cooperation of Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8). The NB8 is coordinated by Norway this year. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also noted that the projects that were being implemented together with Norway, when making use of the European Economic Area and Norwegian Financial Mechanism, were an important instrument of bilateral cooperation.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister expressed his belief that the existing close cooperation between Lithuania and Norway, based on the promotion of democratic values, would only intensify, increasing security in both countries and people’s well-being.
