Minister Linkevičius congratulates Finland on the centenary anniversary of its independence
On 6 December, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini and all the people of Finland on the centenary anniversary of Finland’s independence.
According to Linkevičius, over 100 years of its independence Finland has become an exemplary society based on strong principles of democracy that adheres to its values. Lithuania appreciates and fosters its relationship with such a neighbour and partner.
Finland’s courage to defend its independence against the aggressor during the Second World War is inspiring to us. It also sets a good example to those, who aim to protect their country’s freedom and values today. Today, as we are currently facing the geopolitical challenges, Finland’s efforts to foster democracy, peace and security in the region as well as around the world are particularly valuable.
We are charmed by Finland’s modern day achievements in the fields of high technology, education, research, innovation, and many other areas. Over the 100 years of independence, the people of Finland have built one of the world’s most advanced countries.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister expressed his belief that the countries celebrating their centenary anniversaries in 2018 – Lithuania and Finland – would continue to foster close bilateral and regional Nordic-Baltic cooperation, as well as friendly ties based on democratic values, and would further strengthen their security and create a culture of well-being.
