Minister Linkevičius congratulated Georgia on the 100th anniversary of the first democratic Republic
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkevičius, congratulated, on 26 May, his counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Mikheil Janelidze, and all the people of Georgia, on its historical Independence Day.
Friendly relations between the two countries were further enhanced when earlier this year a decision to introduce Georgia’s authentic name Saqartvelo into the Lithuanian language was taken. The Minister says Lithuanians are happy they can call Georgia Saqartvelo now, but they are even more pleased and proud to refer to Georgians as their friends.
“Seeing freedom, democracy and national dignity in the same way has brought Lithuanians and Georgians closer together. I believe our countries will never lack stamina to fight for those values and support each other on that road,” the Foreign Minister said.
In response to Lithuania’s decision, Georgia established an authentic name of our country on 24 May, so Georgians are going to use the authentic name Lietuva for Lithuania instead of the previously used Litva.
