Minister Linkevičius attends the annual Nordic-Baltic Conference

On 19 January at the Embassy of Sweden in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius opened the annual Nordic-Baltic Conference dedicated to regional issues and challenges. The event  is traditionally held at the beginning of the year and brings together politicians, representatives of academia and embassies. The meeting  reviewed issues related to regional security, society’s resilience to propaganda, hybrid threats, and energy security.

According to Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, the Nordic countries fully supported our struggle for independence in 1990-1991, so now it is our turn to support Ukraine, to build the resilience not only of our societies, but to encourage in solidarity also other countries to consistently adhere to a position on maintaining sanctions against Russia, and towards such political projects as the Nord Stream 2 and other similar projects. Linkevičius also suggested promoting direct cooperation between people and municipalities.

The conference in Vilnius, dedicated to the Nordic-Baltic cooperation, is taking place for the 4th time. Representatives of the Nordic Baltic Eight (NB8) are presenting priorities and coordinating joint plans. Sweden is coordinating the NB8 activities in 2018. Lithuania will take over the coordination of the NB8 in 2022.
