Minister Linas Linkevičius participates in the conference on Lithuanian–Polish small and medium-sized businesses and tourism

On 16 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius visited Rokiškis, where the conference on Lithuanian – Polish small and medium-sized businesses and tourism was held. During the conference, L. Linkevičius met with the outgoing President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski who was the host of the event. The meeting focused on the most relevant issues of the bilateral Lithuanian – Polish agenda.

“In future Lithuanian–Polish relations, it is especially important to maintain close human contacts, to increase cooperation at regional and municipal level. This event provides an excellent opportunity to discuss the ways for further strengthening of bilateral regional economic cooperation in the field of small and medium-sized businesses as well as promoting tourism. I believe that this conference can set a good example for other Lithuanian regions as well. It is important to maintain a dialogue not only between Vilnius and Warsaw but also between Rokiškis and Mińsk Mazowiecki, Sulejówek or Wołomin towns,” stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

L. Linkevičius noted that it is essential to implement bilateral projects at regional level, which would allow a better understanding of business environment in both countries as well as sharing best practice. “This would not only provide additional opportunities for Lithuanian and Polish societies to know each other better but also the new contacts, increased trade or investment help to create new jobs in different regions of our country,” said the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy. The Minister thanked the Mayor of Rokiškis District Antanas Vagonis for initiating this conference.

The outgoing President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski visited Rokiškis in October last year. During the visit, B. Komorowski was officially granted the title of Honorary Citizen of Rokiškis Region and participated in the exhibition opening in Rokiškis museum, which holds a few valuable objects donated by him. President’s family comes from Rokiškis District.

The conference is attended by representatives of Mińsk Mazowiecki, Sulejówek and Wołomin authorities and businessmen, companies from Rokiškis District and surrounding regions. The event is organized by Rokiškis District Municipality and the B. Komorowski Institute.
