Minister L.Linkevičius urges world Lithuanian youth to get actively involved in Lithuania’s life
On 22 December, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius met with representatives of the World Lithuanian Youth Association (WLYA) to discuss possibilities to strengthen cooperation between Lithuanian institutions and Lithuanians living abroad.
L.Linkevičius and Foreign Vice-Minister Mantvydas Bekešius held a discussion with 34 young people from 18 countries, participating in the WLYA’s training and meetings with heads of Lithuanian governmental institutions. The event aims to promote a more active dialogue between Lithuanian authorities and world Lithuanians, as well as their active involvement in the economic, political, social and cultural life of Lithuania. The representatives of the WLYA took interest in activities of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, priority activities for 2015, electronic voting, building and maintaining closer ties between Lithuanian diplomatic representations abroad and local Lithuanians. The meeting also discussed possibilities of financing future project activities of the youth.
The WLYA is an independent non-political voluntary organization, which was officially founded in 1972 and aims to represent the needs of the world Lithuanian youth. The WLYA represents 40 active Lithuanian Youth Association chapters and has a bureau in Lithuania.
