Minister L. Linkevičius: while working together let’s make use of opportunities provided by strategic partnership with United States
On 17 February in Washington, D.C., the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland. The conversation focused on bilateral relations with the United States, the transatlantic cooperation, issues related to economy, trade and energy as well as the EU-U.S. cooperation with regard to the EU’s Eastern Neighbourhood.
According to the Minister L.Linkevičius, while working closely and creatively together with the U.S. administration and business, Lithuania must take full advantage of opportunities and benefits provided by the strategic partnership with the United States.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister stressed that the U.S. support in NATO had always been and would continue to be important for Lithuania, also the U.S. support as the country is chairing the UN Security Council for the first time.
“We are glad that during the EU’s Presidency, Lithuania has achieved meaningful results not only in Brussels, but has also worked intensely with Washington,” the Minister L.Linkevičius said.
The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy expressed his belief that the successful negotiations between the European Union and the United States on the new trade and investment agreement would further strengthen the transatlantic partnership, create jobs on both sides of the Atlantic, and boost the EU-U.S. economic growth.
