Minister L. Linkevičius met the recently appointed Ambassador of Armenia

On 16 July, Linas Linkevičius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, met Tigran Mkrtchyan, the Ambassador of Armenia who is about to start work in Lithuania. Key matters in bilateral relationship between Lithuania and Armenia were discussed at the meeting. It has been agreed to promote economic cooperation and bilateral investment.

The Minister also exchanged views with the Ambassador on the negotiations between the European Union and Armenia in connection with the new agreement and discussed cooperation opportunities. According to the Minister, Lithuania supports the implementation of European reforms in Armenia and is prepared to share its experience in reforms making a very efficient use of the EU Twinning programme.

The Minister stressed that Lithuania supports a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Ambassador of Armenia expressed his gratitude to Lithuania as the country which was the first to recognise the independence of Armenia.

On 11 July, the Ambassador of Armenia presented his credentials to Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė.
