On 3 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, opened an international conference  “Negotiating Peace for Ukraine: International Law Dimensions and Implications”, organised by the Center of Ukrainian Law of the Vilnius University Faculty of Law and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his opening speech, the Minister underlined that Lithuania’s aim was to achieve a lasting and just peace in Ukraine.

"There is no political or diplomatic solution without international law. A lasting peace solution is not possible without fundamental principles such as territorial integrity. We need a good result – a lasting and just peace, along with political, legal, and financial accountability. We need to prosecute all those who stand behind the plans for crimes against Ukraine," said Budrys.

The Minister also spoke about the use of frozen Russian assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine and stressed that Russia must pay for all damage it had  caused in Ukraine.

The international conference brought together politicians, academics, and experts to discuss the dimensions of international law, their roles, and implications for negotiations for a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace in Ukraine.
