Minister Budrys: the development of defence industry is a strategic national interest
On 30 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, participated in the event "Manufacturing Leaders’ Summit 2025: From Local Strength to Global Scale," organised by the public institution Invest Lithuania, and gave a presentation on the geopolitical situation and opportunities for the Lithuanian industry.
In his speech, the Minister noted that the new government will maintain the continuity of Lithuania's foreign and security policy, emphasizing that even against the background of complex geopolitical circumstances, Lithuania remains a reliable country for investment, distinguished by the competence of its talent, opportunities for innovation, and macroeconomic stability.
"We must act quickly and decisively – strengthening NATO's position in the region, increasing the cost to Russia’ provocations, and developing air defence capabilities. Only in this way will we ensure the state's resilience and a safe environment for business. The development of the defence industry today is not only a growth of the sector, but also a strategic national interest," said Budrys.
The Minister underlined that NATO’s swift reaction to the damage of undersea critical infrastructure, which led to the launch of the Baltic Sentry operation, and its response to the Russian shadow fleet had set a good example of how to prevent hybrid attacks by the aggressor.
The event highlighted the importance of attracting innovations to the defence industry, discussed opportunities for the development of a dual-use technology ecosystem, and innovations that are becoming an increasingly important element of economic and security interaction.
