Minister Budrys: security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific is indivisible

On 10 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania, Shinsuke Shimizu.

The Minister and the Ambassador discussed security agenda of bilateral concern, the need to strengthen the international community's support for Ukraine, and to seek a just and lasting peace.

The head of Lithuania's diplomacy stressed that security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region was indivisible.

“The geopolitical processes taking place in the global space are closely interlinked. Although we are geographically separated by thousands of kilometers, Lithuania and Japan face the same security challenges and threats. The close bilateral relationship with Japan and growing cooperation in NATO formats are in Lithuania’s interest,” said Budrys.

At the  meeting there was discussion of Lithuania's and Japan's economic agenda, business relations and people-to-people contactss. According to Budrys, Lithuania and Japan share a similar approach to economic security leading to mutual interest in strengthening economic cooperation and developing business and high technologies‘ partnerships.

The Minister also expressed hope that Lithuania‘s participation in the international exhibition EXPO 2025 taking place in Osaka this year will open additional opportunities for cooperation of both countries.
