Minister Budrys opens the Consulate General of Lithuania in Munich
On 6 March, the head of Lithuania's diplomacy opened the Consulate General of Lithuania in Munich. The official opening ceremony was attended by Eric Beißwenger, State Minister for European and International Relations of the Free State of Bavaria, Bavarian politicians, representatives of business, education, and culture, the diplomatic corps in Munich, and the local Lithuanian community.
When addressing the event participants, the Foreign Minister emphasized that the opening of the Consulate General in Munich would contribute to the development of Lithuania's diplomatic network and intensifying cooperation between Lithuania and Germany in political, security, economic, educational, cultural, and other fields.
“I believe that Germany’s historic decision to deploy a German brigade in Lithuania will bring our countries and people even closer together. Part of the German troops will come to Lithuania from Bavaria,” said the Foreign Minister.
Budrys emphasized that Lithuania's decision to allocate 5-6% of gross domestic product to defense annually between the years of 2026 and 2030 should become a significant financial stimulus for Bavaria's defense industry to seriously consider investment opportunities in Lithuania. The Foreign Minister pointed out the great untapped potential for strengthening cooperation between Lithuania and Bavaria in the fields of life sciences, biotechnology, and laser industry.
“Bavaria, with its strong economic power, rich cultural heritage, and a dynamic international environment, is undoubtedly very important for Lithuania. Beyond any doubt, the Consulate General in Munich will promote trade and investment, foster cultural exchanges, and strengthen educational cooperation,” said the Foreign Minister.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of the Free State of Bavaria, the German federal authorities, and the Lithuanian community in Munich for their unwavering support and benevolent assistance in setting up the Consulate General in Munich.
“I hope that thanks to the Consulate General in Munich, every Lithuanian living in Germany will feel a stronger connection with their homeland and will feel a desire to contribute to the well-being of Lithuania and be proud of their heritage,” said the Foreign Minister.
The Consulate General of Lithuania in Munich is the first of its kind in Germany. The Free State of Bavaria and the state of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany are within its jurisdiction.
