Minister Budrys met with newly appointed Ambassador of Türkiye to Lithuania
On 30 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with the Ambassador of Türkiye to Lithuania, Esra Toplu, who recently undertook her duties in Lithuania.
The meeting focused on the main items on the bilateral agenda, the security situation in the region, cooperation within NATO, and the strengthening of the international community's support to Ukraine.
The minister thanked Türkiye for its significant contribution to the security of Lithuania and the Baltic states, especially for the deployment of the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft to our region.
"The deployment of the AWACS aircraft is not only a strategic step, but also sends a clear sign of solidarity among NATO countries, which we highly value," said Budrys.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy emphasized that the current struggle of the people of Ukraine for freedom and sovereignty is a test of security for the whole of Europe. Therefore, it is vital to increase military support for Ukraine, strengthen the political support of the international community, and ensure that the aggressor cannot circumvent sanctions. According to the Minister, only decisive action and a clear position can stop this brutal aggression and pave the way for peace.
The meeting also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, tourism, energy, information technology, life sciences, and startups. The minister invited Turkish defence industry companies to take advantage of favourable investment conditions in our country, emphasizing that operations can be launched within just six months.
