Minister Budrys meets with the new Ambassador of Spain to Lithuania

On 30 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Spain to Lithuania, José Fernando Fernández-Aguayo Muñoz. The Minister emphasized the strong partnership and cooperation between Lithuania and Spain in international initiatives, thanked Spain for its support for the security of NATO's eastern flank, and expressed solidarity with Belarus' hybrid attacks.

"We appreciate Spain's active participation in the Baltic Air Policing mission, its operational contribution to the protection of Lithuanian airspace and its strong commitment to NATO's rotational air defence model, strengthening the security of the entire region," said Minister Budrys.

When speaking about bilateral cooperation, the Minister highlighted the opportunities in the field of military industry, the Rail Baltica project, cyber security and disinformation prevention, and the popularity of the Spanish language in Lithuanian education.

As regards support for Ukraine, Minister Budrys stressed: “We thank Spain for its participation in the mechanism launched by the United States and NATO to accelerate the delivery of military equipment to Ukraine, humanitarian aid, and support to the energy sector against daily Russian attacks. We are seeking Ukraine’s membership of the European Union by 2030, which will be the strongest non-military security guarantee for Ukraine and the EU as a whole.”
