Minister Budrys: Lithuania and the United Kingdom share a common perception of threats and a desire for a safer Europe

On 17 December, Kęstutis Budrys, Lithuanian Foreign Minister, and Stephen Doughty, Minister for Europe of the United Kingdom, had a telephone conversation on cooperation between Lithuania and the United Kingdom, as well as on regional security.

Budrys thanked his British counterpart for his contribution in ensuring that support for Ukraine remains strong, his input in enhancing the Baltic Sea region‘s security, and for his role in the development of close bilateral relations. The Minister stressed the need to invest more in European security in the face of Russia's aggression against Ukraine by increasing defence funding, to assist Ukraine with concrete military measures and to continue coordinating action on sanctions against aggressor countries.

"The United Kingdom is an important security partner for Lithuania. In the context of turbulent geopolitical events, we share a common understanding of threats and a desire to maintain a rules-based world order. As Russia's brutal military actions in Ukraine continue unabated, it is more important than ever to focus on strengthening the security of NATO's Eastern flank and Europe as a whole," said Minister Budrys.
