Minister Budrys: By defending the freedom of its people, Ukraine also stands on the front line of Europe's defence
On 1 April, Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Kęstutis Budrys, who is on a working visit to Kyiv, met with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
By defending the freedom of its people and territorial integrity, Ukraine also stands on the front line of Europe's defence. The only effective strategy to contain Russia’s aggression is deterrence through comprehensive strengthening of Ukraine and increasing European investment in its defence capabilities. The Kremlin understands only one language – the language of force, and that is the language we should speak,” said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy.
The Minister underlined that Lithuania is committed to providing Ukraine with long-term support of at least 0.25% of GDP every year. Lithuania was also among the first to invest in Ukraine's defence industry and continues to expand bilateral cooperation in this regard, focusing on joint production.
During the meeting, the Lithuanian and Ukrainian Foreign Ministers discussed the regional cooperation formats, such as the Lublin Triangle and NB8, which provide excellent opportunities for practical cooperation among Ukraine’s closest donors.
The Ministers also discussed the situation on the front lines and Ukraine's most urgent support needs. At the same time, they talked about efforts to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire that would lead to just and sustainable peace.
According to the Minister, Lithuania contributes and will contribute to all international initiatives to strengthen Ukraine, including the "Coalition of the Willing," which can provide security guarantees to Ukraine.
