‘Migrant crisis can be tackled only through joint effort’: Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister

At the EU’s Foreign Affairs (Development) Council meeting in Luxembourg on 26 October, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas stressed that the migrant crisis was a long-term challenge, which could be tackled only through joint effort.

According to Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister, the EU should actively look for ways to resolve conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa, because it was one of the main causes of migrant crisis. We must also support third countries, particularly Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan, which have taken in the most refugees.

“In order to reduce the flow of migrants, it is necessary to ensure a peaceful and stable economic development of partner countries. In particular, it is important to promote democracy, the rule of law, efficient institutions and good governance. Lithuania is ready to contribute not only financially, but also by sharing its reform experiences to this end,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister.
