MFA’s Statement on the events in Belarus

It is with deep concern that we are following the developments in Minsk today. The actions by the Belarus authorities against its people, who wanted to commemorate the Freedom Day, are a grave violation of the freedom of assembly. We condemn the unprovoked and disproportionate violence against the Belarus citizens, defenders of human rights, and media representatives. We call for immediate release of all those who have been detained. Stability in the country as well as the future of its relations with the European Union will depend on the actions to be taken by the Belarus authorities.
