MFA statement on Russia’s decision to give political asylum to the former president of bank Snoras

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is concerned about the decision of Russian Federation institutions to give political asylum to the former president of bank Snoras, Raimondas Baranauskas. The latter has been prosecuted by the Republic of Lithuania since 2011 for large-scale misappropriation of assets, document forgery, fraudulent accounting, and abuse of official capacity.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlines its regret about refusal of the Russian Federation institutions to cooperate with Lithuanian law enforcement institutions in investigating this and other notorious criminal cases despite the legal aid applications made by the Lithuanian institutions.
