Mexico opens its market for Lithuanian wheat
More and more markets open for Lithuanian agricultural and food products. This week, Lithuania received an official authorisation to export wheat to Mexico, which is home to 128 million people.
“From now on, we can enjoy another very important direction of wheat export — the Mexican market. This was possible thanks to the effort of various institutions, including Lithuania's diplomatic service," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis.
The latest data shows that exports of Lithuanian goods are rapidly increasing not only to the countries of strategic partnership — the United States of America, Poland, Germany, but also to new market, such as the countries of the Indo-Pacific region.
Obtaining authorisations for exports of agricultural products is a complex and time-consuming process that takes several years. Thanks to the joint effort of diplomats and other Lithuanian institutions, a permission to export Lithuanian egg products to the U.S.A was obtained in September 2022.
Lithuania is only the second country in the European Union to obtain such a permit. This week, the first Lithuanian company “Groward Group” was registered on the website of the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service and gained the right to export its products to the U.S. after 7 years of preparatory work.
Lithuanian agricultural and food products are shipped to more than 150 countries. Lithuania is one of the largest wheat exporters in the world, capable of exporting extremely high and exceptional quality wheat. Cereals grown in Lithuania were sent to 33 countries in the first half of this year.
